FOUNDERS Q & A
Why brownies?
Paz: Who doesn’t love brownies? We love them, always have and thought they were due a revamp from the crusty old flavours that you find in boring supermarket aisles. So we came up with the darkest, most decadent base and then experimented with loads of really fun and delicious flavours
Morag: I am possibly the world’s biggest chocoholic. Even Paz is gobsmacked and possibly slightly scared of my chocolate capacity. I absolutely cannot live without it, so when Paz and I were starting our business it was a non-negotiable and with the skills we have where the market was at (in 2013) we landed on brownies. But they had to be the best and the gooeyest and most indulgent we could make.
Top 5 brownie flavours
PAZ: I like weird and wonderful usually but when it comes to fave flavours I would always go back for it is super easy to decide (he says!!). First off is blackforest – we’ve just launched a brand new version and it is freaking awesome – super tangy fruity and rich all at once – can’t put it down! Then raspberry cheesecake – we haven’t done this in a while but it was super creamy, delicious and frankly quite addictive. Cookie Dough Brookie has to be in there – the mix of slightly chewy buttery cookie mixed with a dark choco brownie? Match made in heaven! Maltesers is one of those ones that start of really subtle but you just can’t stop eating it as it gets better and better with every bite. Finally, matcha and cherry – another limited edition one that worked really well with fruity bursts of cherry in a buttery, earthy base. Technically it was a blondie not a brownie but that’s splitting hairs.
MO (managing to take a break from eating chocolate) says: That’s like choosing a favourite child but if I have to choose then (from our new collection), Maltesier, Hazelnut Crunch, super goo-ey Salted Caramel and I love our classic Triple Chocolate flavour, and finally, Jaffa Cake brownie is my forever favourite (It’s off the menu for a while).
PAZ: That Morag and I are still such good friends after the highs and lows of running a company together for over ten years.
MO: At the moment - I am so proud that we are still here. There have been some sticky moments! And obviously - as Paz said, that we are still great friends. I drive him crazy.
